PhD studies

We provide opportunities for clinicians interested in critical care research. Our PhD students are fully supported and encouraged in clinical research, theory, scientific analysis, support and writing.

Post Doctoral or Research Associate


Research will involve design of experiments and experimental apparatus as well as directing graduate students in execution of experiments and analysis of data. The primary goals will be directed towards the improvement of physiological control systems and patient outcomes. The associate will be encouraged to work independetly and seek external funding, and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.

Medical Engineering


The Innovative Cardiovascular Engineering and Technology Laboratory (ICETLab – www.icetlab.com), based at The Prince Charles Hospital in Chermside, QLD, is developing new artificial heart technology. Research in this area will involve design of experiments and experimental apparatus as well as directing graduate students in execution of experiments and analysis of data. Applicants can be Australian-based or international students, and will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects

Mechanical Engineering


Our young, yet highly experienced, team of researchers includes engineers and medical specialists from various fields. Together, we have set up a strong collaborative network which incorporates institutions in Australia, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, UK and USA. Together, investigations into hydraulic impeller design, CFD simulation, pump miniaturisation and manufacturing techniques towards the development of a novel mechanical devices.

Electrical Engineering


We invite applications for an internship in electrical engineering. Unfortunately, this internship is unpaid unless the applicant is able to secure funding through their host institution. Applicants can be Australian-based or international students, and will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, such as the following: Magnetic bearings, Electrical drive, Design of circuitry and µC-migration, Controller algorithms, Power transmission and connection.
