The CCRG World XI had an enjoyable night in Tuesday’s Charlies Week football tournament with a mixed bag of results in the group stages – a win, loss and a draw. A contentious goal leading to an equaliser deprived the CCRG stars of a place in the final, but the team hit form with a resounding win in the 3rd/4th place playoff.
Starting with a sound performance in goal, Hollier O’Neill showed that Gympie grit as she moved outfield. Eric Wu and the Foundation’s Guy King were a creative pairing in central midfield, playing behind an electric striking partnership of John and Nick Fraser. Johannes Lorenz and Fabian Habets were rock solid in central defence. Scoring a 25-yard screamer, Andrew Haymets energetic box to box runs were complemented by the tacking of a tireless Janice Reid. Karin Wildi and Jo Pauls put in impressive performances, constantly testing the opposition defence before having to retire with injury.
The team were lifted by the awesome vocal support of other CCRG colleagues, rivalling the terraces of Anfield and Parkhead.
Scorers: – Guy King, Janice Reid, Nick Fraser, Andrew Haymet and John Canning
Charlie’s week is filled with a broad array of community building activities including the incredible cake competition! Our very own Gabriella won the People’s Choice Award. Well done!
