ECHO Australia celebrates 20 years

CCRG’s Professor John F Fraser will deliver the 5th John O’Shea Memorial Lecture at the 2022 ECHO Australia conference to be held at Queensland’s Gold Coast Convention and Entertainment Centre, October 17-19.

The Memorial Lecture recognises the distinguished career of late Perth-based cardiologist, John O’Shea, President of the National Heart Foundation (WA Branch) and former Chairman of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.

“Dr O’Shea was as highly-regarded by colleagues and peers as he was by his patients. While he dedicated his life to medicine, achieving great personal success, Dr O’Shea set an example for us all in putting  patient care in front of all else,” said Professor Fraser, Founder and Director of the Critical Care Research Group at Brisbane’s The Prince Charles Hospital and Director, Intensive Care, St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital.

“The isolation of the pandemic has highlighted how much we all value coming together in person – not only to discuss advances in cardiovascular medicine, but also to continue the education and mentorship to build the next generation, as Dr O’Shea did so successfully throughout his career,” said Professor Fraser.

“I have been incredibly fortunate through my clinical and research training, both in Scotland and in Australia to see the speciality of echocardiography grow from something restricted to a dark room in the corner, to being a routine tool used in every part of the hospital, not least the ICU where it has revolutionised patient management.

“What fascinates me as a researcher is not only the speed of that revolution but wondering what the next big change in echo will be and how can it further improve patient care even more.”

CCRG will be further represented at the Echo Australia Conference by Dr Sato and Dr Obonyo who will be Faculty at the Cardiac Strain Workshops and participate in Faculty panel discussions Chaired by Professor Jonathan Chan.

The 20th anniversary Echo Australia Conference will be held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC), located in the heart of Broadbeach, on the land of the Kombumerri families of the Yugambeh Language Region, Queensland.
