CCRG welcomes ‘Charlie’s Greats’ for landmark collaboration

CCRG’s regularly collaborates with many of the world’s leading surgeons, radiologists, data scientists and research assistants.

This week those visitors included cardiothoracic surgeon Dr Bruce Garlick, interventional radiologist Dr Kendall Redmond, and Prof Richard Slaughter, founder of The Richard Slaughter Centre of Excellence in Cardiovascular MRI at The Prince Charles Hospital.

The physicians joined us for a study trialling novel interventions for ARDS, a project led by PRIMELab’s A/Prof Gianluigi Li Bassi and Dr Gabriele Fior. The team, further assisted by renowned cardiothoracic surgeon Prof David McGiffin, CCRG’s Head of Cardiothoracic Transplant, examined different pathways of lung injury propagation in a porcine model of ARDS

“The Prince Charles Hospital’s global reputation has been built on those that came before us and taught us. I was blown away this week to have these truly brilliant leaders come back to help us with a really tricky model,” said CCRG Founder and Director, Prof John Fraser.

“To have these “Former Charlie’s Greats” ( FCGs) come back and freely help us crack this really tricky model speaks volumes to their generosity, and equally the reputation of CCRG as a leader in innovation in the heart lung space, as the presence of each of these FCGs attested!”
